Request for Proposals – Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety
The Albemarle Commission is pleased to announce a Request for Proposals to develop a bicycle and pedestrian safety campaign for out 10 county region. The campaign will include educational outreach, enforcement training and materials, and encouragement efforts. Changing the traffic safety culture will also be the goal of our campaign.
From 2012-2016, 119 pedestrians were injured and 24 killed by motor vehicles in our 10 county region. 22 of the 119 pedestrians injured were ages 15 and under. In the same time frame, 92 bicyclists were injured and 7 killed by motor vehicles and 15 of those injured were ages 15 years or younger. We believe outcomes of this campaign will result in fewer pedestrian/motor vehicle and bicyclist/motor vehicles injuries and fatalities in our region.
